For nearly half a year, Tesla sales have been steadily dropping in Europe, and it's not hard to imagine why.

Tesla is struggling in Europe, according to new data from the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (or EAMA).

Elon Musk's electric vehicle company registered its fifth straight month of decreasing sales compared to last year, according to Reuters. Tesla sales fell 27.9 percent year-over-year in May, even as sales of electric vehicles rose by nearly the same amount, 27.2 percent, during the same month, EAMA data reveals.

Tesla sales keep dropping in Europe, despite the launch of the refreshed Model Y, with data from both the continent as a whole and Germany specifically.

Tesla has had the advantage of seemingly ubiquitous name recognition in the EV space for the past decade-plus, but it seems that isn't working in its favor anymore, at least in Europe.

The sales slump follows the Cybertruck's recent fall from the top of the EV truck sales chart in the United States in May, according to data from S&P Global Mobility.
