Flipkart's logistics arm Ekart goes live on ONDC

Flipkart's in-house logistics arm, Ekart has gone live on government-backed ecommerce network Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), the companies said in a joint press note.

The integration will allow sellers on the ONDC Network, including small businesses and large enterprises, to access Ekart’s logistics services through a single interface.

"“This integration marks a significant step in democratizing access to world-class logistics. Ekart’s scale and operational depth bring vital logistics capacity to the ONDC Network, reinforcing our commitment to building an open, interoperable infrastructure that empowers sellers and merchants to grow without logistical constraints. It reflects ONDC’s vision of a digital commerce ecosystem where efficiency and access are shared standards," Vibhor Jain, Acting CEO and COO at ONDC.

This development comes amid broader push from the network to scale its ecommerce orders.

"This integration represents a natural extension of our vision to enable seamless, scalable, and tech-driven logistics solutions for businesses of all sizes - from first-time digital sellers to large, established brands," shared Mani Bhushan, Chief Business Officer, Ekart.

Ekart, which began operations in 2009, provides integrated supply chain solutions to a range of businesses, including warehousing, dropshipping and heavy inventory movement. The unit had scaled operations and recorded 8X growth over the last three years, it said in November last year.

The company currently operates more than 7,000 trucks daily and manages warehouses across 20 locations, delivering to all serviceable pin codes in the country.

ONDC's partnership with Ekart comes amid leadership churn at the Network. Last month, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal trade (DPIIT) promoted initiative appointed Vibhor Jain as acting CEO with immediate effect as it continues the search of a permanent chief executive.

Former MD and CEO Thampy Koshy had stepped down in April after his three-year tenure, and handed over his responsibilities to an executive committee available to the board till June.
