ELI5: If Knots continues to gain traction against core (v29 or v30), will it eventually result in a fork? If so, would it be a hard or soft fork?
Conversations around Knots vs. Core are gaining traction and they have become filled with assumptions, insults, and accusations. One thing I've heard pushed around is this leading to a potential fork, but no one is explaining what kind or when. I'm not looking to debate the need to run either version of Core, be it the current or the coming v30, or Knots. I want to better understand the implications if 50% or 80% of the community nodes do switch to Knots. One of the specific implications I'm wondering is if Knots does end up gaining sufficient traction with the node runners, but not with the Miners (Antpool, Foundry, F2Pool) and the mining pools instead upgrade to v30 Core, does Core continue as bitcoin and Knots become a spin off? How and when is that decided? I know the longest chain wins, but when does the split start, if it does? submitted by /u/Son_of_Caba [link] [comments]
