Microsoft is making another 305 layoffs in Redmond, according to a filing Monday with the Washington state Employment Security Department, bringing the company’s total reported layoffs in the state to nearly 2,300 in recent weeks.
The new cuts come less than a month after Microsoft announced a workforce reduction affecting nearly 3% of its global workforce, or approximately 6,000 employees. Those cuts included 1,985 employees in Washington state.
It’s not yet clear whether the newly disclosed 305 layoffs are part of that earlier 3% reduction or represent an additional wave of cuts across the company. We’ve contacted Microsoft for clarification.
In a prior statement, a Microsoft spokesperson said the reductions last month were intended to “best position the company for success in a dynamic marketplace.”
Microsoft has not said whether AI efficiencies played a role in the cuts.
