How did you first get into Bitcoin?

Everyone has a different origin story. What sparked your interest, and what year was it? Mine almost started the wrong way when I read an article about Bitcoin mining. I was intrigued by the idea of creating something that could be valuable out of thin air, with just electricity and a rig. I tried to place an order for the MiniRig from Butterfly Labs in April 2013, but they were out of stock. I always regretted not following up, but it turns out I dodged a bullet. They delivered mostly useless machines since mining difficulty had increased by the time they were shipped. Unfortunately, I didn't buy Bitcoin outright. I suppose I felt more comfortable buying the thing that makes the thing rather than the thing itself. It wasn't until 2017 that I took that step. Unfortunately, I just dipped my toe into the water. I wish I had taken a plunge. Then again, it's easy to say that with 20/20 hindsight. It was a very risky bet back then. submitted by /u/kendevo [link] [comments]
