YourStory’s MSME Sparks will train the spotlight on the bedrock of India’s economy
MSME Sparks isn’t just an event — it’s a movement to ignite growth through connection, collaboration, and celebration.
They may not always make headlines, but Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are the quiet force powering India’s economy.
With more than 63 million enterprises spread across rural and urban India, the MSME sector contributes approximately 30% to India’s GDP and accounts for nearly 40% of total exports, according to the Ministry of MSME. These businesses, ranging from textile units in Tirupur to manufacturing hubs in Rajkot and tech-driven startups in Tier II cities, create livelihood opportunities for over 110 million people, making the sector the second largest source of employment after agriculture.
However, the road for MSMEs is not without hurdles. The sector faces persistent challenges that slow growth and limit its potential. These include limited access to formal credit, difficulty in adopting new technologies, and complex regulatory landscapes.
However, despite these barriers, MSMEs continue to punch above their weight, adapting rapidly to disruptions, creating jobs at the grassroots, and contributing to inclusive growth.
To honour and empower this vibrant spirit and vital sector, YourStory presents MSME Sparks 2025, a week-long celebration that will spotlight the unsung heroes building India's economic future.
Scheduled to be held from June 23–27, MSME Sparks will include a four-day virtual event to be followed by an on-ground grand finale in Bengaluru. Throughout the week, MSME trailblazers, policy experts, and digital-first disruptors will come together for immersive sessions, inspirational talks, and real-world solutions. The half-day grand finale will include fireside chats, high-impact panels, and keynote sessions that spotlight India’s MSME champions.
The importance of MSMEs goes beyond numbers. They are often the first line of economic activity in emerging regions, providing local jobs, supporting artisans and traditional industries, and acting as critical nodes in both global and domestic supply chains. They also play a vital role in driving innovation, especially in areas like agritech, fintech, and clean energy, and are increasingly embracing digital tools to expand their reach.
This week-long festival is designed for all changemakers shaping the MSME landscape: MSMEs, digital enablers, SaaS providers, policymakers, regulators, corporates, innovators, investors, influencers, and business thought leaders. They will ideate and debate on relevant themes such as digital transformation, financial inclusion, sustainable & responsible growth, market expansion, progressive policies & ecosystem trends, and the outlook for the future.
As India eyes becoming a $5 trillion economy, the role of MSMEs is more critical than ever. Empowering these enterprises with easier access to capital, technology, and mentorship will not only boost their resilience but also ensure that the growth of the country is broad-based and sustainable.
