Google brings advanced AI Mode search experience to India
In India, users can access the feature in English by enabling it through Search Labs, a Google programme that lets users try out experimental tools.

Google Search has changed how people access information online through AI tools such as AI Overviews. Expanding on this, the company is now bringing its more advanced AI Mode search experience to users in India.
This new mode provides enhanced reasoning capabilities, can interpret different types of input, and allows users to pose more complex queries. It also supports in-depth exploration of topics through follow-up questions and relevant web links.
The tech giant introduced AI Mode as an experiment in the US earlier this year, and began expanding its availability beyond Labs during Google I/O 2025.
In India, users can access the feature in English by enabling it through Search Labs, a Google programme that lets users try out experimental tools and share feedback on early versions of Google Search experiences.
After activating the feature, a new AI Mode tab will appear within Search and in the search bar of the Google app.
AI Mode is powered by Gemini 2.5’s advanced reasoning, analytical, and multimodal abilities. This allows users to ask questions in the way that suits them best: whether by typing, speaking, or using images captured or uploaded.
“We know voice and visual search are extremely popular in India. More people use Google Lens here every month than in any other country worldwide,” Hema Budaraju, Vice President, Product Management, Search, said in a blog post.
According to Google, AI Mode helps users access high-quality information from across the web. It provides useful links to assess sources and explore topics further, offering insights from a variety of viewpoints.
“This launch is part of our long-term vision to make finding and accessing information even more effortless on Search,” Budaraju noted.
Budaraju added that AI Overviews, which deliver brief, AI-generated summaries at the top of search results to help users quickly understand key points, are now used by over 1.5 billion people each month. In major markets such as the US and India, these summaries have led to more than a 10% rise in usage for the kinds of searches where they are shown.
