Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his two-day multi-state tour with a pivotal visit to Bihar today, where he inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for a slew of development projects aimed at transforming the state's infrastructure and public utilities.
Key Projects Inaugurated in Siwan
The Prime Minister addressed a public gathering in Siwan after unveiling multiple projects focused on railways, water management, and energy systems—signaling a strong federal commitment to Bihar’s development trajectory.
Railway Boost: New Lines and Vande Bharat Flag-Off
A major highlight of the day was the inauguration of the Vaishali–Deoria railway line, a ₹400 crore project that is expected to enhance regional connectivity. In addition, the Vande Bharat Express connecting Patliputra and Gorakhpur via Muzaffarpur and Bettiah was flagged off, offering North Bihar its most modern and high-speed rail option yet.
Make in India Goes Global: First Export Locomotive
In a symbolic moment underscoring India's manufacturing ambitions, PM Modi flagged off a state-of-the-art locomotive built at Bihar’s Marhowra Plant for export to the Republic of Guinea. Equipped with high-horsepower engines, AC propulsion, regenerative braking, and ergonomic cab designs, the locomotive showcases India’s industrial prowess on a global stage.
Clean Water & Sanitation: Ganga Rejuvenation Efforts
Staying true to the Namami Gange mission, the PM inaugurated six new Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) worth over ₹1,800 crore. These plants will significantly improve wastewater management and river conservation in the region.
He also laid the foundation stone for water supply and sanitation projects across multiple towns in Bihar, collectively worth over ₹3,000 crore. These initiatives aim to provide clean drinking water and modern sanitation infrastructure, improving health and quality of life for thousands of residents.
Powering Bihar’s Future: Green Energy Storage
In a transformative step for energy infrastructure, PM Modi announced the launch of 500 MWh Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) across 15 substations in Bihar—including Muzaffarpur, Motihari, Bettiah, and Siwan. These systems will allow distribution companies to store electricity during off-peak hours and supply it when demand spikes—reducing costs and improving power reliability.
Affordable Housing Push: PMAY Urban Benefits
Furthering the goal of housing for all, the Prime Minister released the first instalment to over 53,600 beneficiaries under PMAY Urban (Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana - Urban). He also participated in a Grih Pravesh ceremony for 6,600 newly completed houses, handing over keys to select recipients on stage.
