Have you seen Marriott full-service hotels offering rate plans that don’t include housekeeping services?

A LoyaltyLobby reader alerted us that these rates are available in at least some hotels in Canada. Properties offer “Green” rates without housekeeping services.

You can access Marriott here.

The Westin Wall Centre, Vancouver Airport – Rate Search:

There is this Stay Green Save More rate plan that appears to be the cheapest.

The relevant part of the rate rules:

Thank you for choosing to travel Green

This rate gives an extra discount for travelers to decline any housekeeping or overnight service

This helps Wall Centre Hotels attain our ambitious environmental targets

Declining overnight service allows us to reduce our water consumption and energy use in a very meaningful way

For your safety and comfort, we will enter your room for a wellness-check and a modest refresh every 3 days

The rate plan doesn’t include any housekeeping services but a “wellness check” (to ensure that the guest hasn’t died?) and a light “refresh” every 3 days.

Conclusion

Some travelers prefer not to receive housekeeping services at all, but why would you stay at a full-service hotel?

There are cheaper select service or long-term accommodation options, such as all-suite hotels or Airbnb, that ensure a non-disturbed or no-housekeeping stay.

I personally prefer daily housekeeping combined with the turndown service at full-service hotels.

This makes you wonder if Marriott is trialing this service at select hotels in Canada before rolling out similar “green” initiatives elsewhere.

Many hotels used to offer bonus points or F&B credits to guests who didn’t require daily housekeeping, but these are rather rare nowadays.

However awful COVID-19 was, it allowed hoteliers to significantly reduce services, and some guests may have forgotten what the service levels were previously.
