Hear Q Lazzarus’ full cover of Talking Heads’ ‘Heaven’

Few did more to try and shine a spotlight on cult artist Q Lazzarus than filmmaker Jonathan Demme. He used “Goodbye Horses” first in Married to the Mob and then again, much more memorably, in Silence of the Lambs. Then he cast Q and her band in 1993 AIDS drama Philadelphia where they performed a cover of Talking Heads’ “Heaven” in a party scene.

The cover of “Heaven” was never released — the “Goodbye Horses” 12″ was Q Lazzarus’ only release — but it’s now coming out on the soundtrack to the documentary Goodbye Horses: The Many Lives of Q Lazzarus. That has now been shared and you can listen, and watch the scene from Philadelphia, below.

Q Lazzarus, whose real name was Diane Luckey, died in 2022. The Goodbye Horses soundtrack will be out February 21 via Sacred Bones and you can preorder the album on summertime green vinyl in the BV shop.
