Never-before-heard Ella Fitzgerald 1967 live album announced (hear a track)
Verve Records has unearthed ‘The Moment Of Truth: Ella At The Coliseum’ for release this February.
Verve Records has announced a new, never-before-released live album from legendary jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald. Titled The Moment Of Truth: Ella At The Coliseum, the album was recorded at the Oakland Coliseum on June 30, 1967, and recently unearthed in the private tape collection of Verve Records founder Norman Granz. The concert finds Ella accompanied by members of The Duke Ellington Orchestra, and it features recordings of two ’60s pop songs that Ella performed in that era but never released on an album, “Alfie” and “Music To Watch Girls By.” It comes out on February 28 (pre-order).
The first song to be released from the album is the title track, “The Moment of Truth,” and the recording–which was mixed and mastered from the original analog multitrack tapes–is stunning. Listen below.
