The Eagles defeated the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round 22-10, while the Rams demolished the Minnesota Vikings 27-9. The Eagles and Rams played earlier this season on Nov. 24 in Los Angeles. As mentioned, these teams played in Week 12, and the Eagles crushed the Rams. In that game, running back Saquon Barkley had arguably his best game of the season, rushing for 255 yards and two touchdowns. Looking up and down these rosters, too many matchups favor the Eagles. The Rams played excellent football in the wild-card round. They sacked Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold nine times and pressured him on 54% of his dropbacks. That’s mind-boggling. However, I don’t think they can do that in this game. The Eagles offensive line is fantastic, with arguably the best tackle combination in the game, with Jordan Mailata at left tackle and Lane Johnson at right tackle. Mailata has allowed just one sack all season. Looking at the Rams offense, yes, they have excellent weapons, with Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp at receiver and Kyren Williams at running back. However, the Eagles allow just 175.3 passing yards (least) and 104.3 rushing yards (ninth-least) per game. The Rams offensive line has been playing better lately, so credit where it’s due, but if the Eagles can replicate what happened in Week 12, the Rams don’t stand a chance. The Eagles pressured Stafford on 31% of his dropbacks in that game. He completed just one pass on seven attempts for eight yards when pressured. He was neutralized. I think the Eagles will get it done again and out-bully the Rams. Los Angeles Rams vs. Philadelphia Eagles Vikings pick My bet for this game is the Eagles -6. The Rams best hope is to contain the Eagles pass rush most of the evening. While I think this line with Alaric Jackson and Rob Havenstein won’t be tossed around easily, there’s too much pass-rushing talent on the Eagles to contain them. Also, the back end of this defense is phenomenal, which can help create “coverage sacks.” This means that the coverage is so good that the pass rushers get additional time to pressure Stafford. When kept clean, Stafford is fantastic with a 19:2 touchdown-to-interception ratio, but the Eagles defense is simply too good to pass up on with this wager.
