After it was reported earlier this week that Evgeni Malkin‘s Stanley Cup rings were stolen in a home burglary, the Pittsburgh Penguins star got some good news on Thursday.

The Allegheny County Police Department shared that the rings have been located inside Malkin’s residence. However, the department is still investigating the robbery.

“I would like to express my gratitude to the Allegheny County Police, the Sewickley Heights Police and the entire Penguins organization,” Malkin said in a statement released by the team. “The outpouring of support and concern from my teammates and fans over the past few days mean so much to my family and I.”

Neither the team nor the police department revealed how Malkin’s rings were discovered in the house.

On Wednesday, the police department released the following statement:

“At 8:30 pm on Jan. 11, Sewickley Heights Police requested the assistance of the Allegheny County Police Department’s General Investigations Unit for a residential burglary on Blackburn Road. It was later determined the home belonged to Pittsburgh Penguins player Evgeni Malkin, who returned home from a game to find his home was burglarized. Detectives initiated an investigation, and preliminary information indicates Malkin’s three Stanley Cup Championship rings were taken from the residence.

“County Police are in contact with impacted law enforcement agencies, and at this time, detectives have not received any information indicating this incident is tied to any of the reported organizations targeting professional athletes across the country. However, this remains an active investigation.”

The news of the burglary was first reported by KDKA-TV on Tuesday, but Malkin later confirmed the report via text to The Athletic.

“Yes, two days ago,” he said in the text when asked if the initial report was accurate.

Pittsburgh played two games at home over the weekend, including a 4 p.m. ET start against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday — the day of the break-in.

Malkin was activated off the injured reserve ahead of Tuesday’s game, where he registered an assist in a 4-2 loss to the Seattle Kraken.

According to The Athletic, Malkin’s home is located in Sewickley Heights, a borough in Allegheny County, and has been the 38-year-old’s residence in Pittsburgh for over a decade.

Malkin’s Stanley Cup rings come from Pittsburgh triumphs in 2009, 2016 and 2017.

In late December, it was reported that the FBI had warned sports leagues about crime organizations targeting professional athletes following a string of burglaries at the homes of prominent NFL and NBA players.
