David Lynch fans have been celebrating the late director’s 79th birthday.
His death was announced by his family last week (January 16) and came after the Twin Peaks creator was reportedly “forced to relocate from his house” due to the Los Angeles wildfires. He was aged 78.
Along with Twin Peaks, Lynch was best known for titles such as Mulholland Drive, Blue Velvet, Elephant Man and the less-than-favourable Dune.
Many celebrities have paid homage to Lynch since his death including Steven Spielberg, Edgar Wright, James Gunn, Hugh Jackman, Billy Corgan, Questlove and more – see more tributes here.
The gaming industry has also shown its respect, with luminaries such as Hideo Kojima and the makers of the game Life Is Strange posting about the director’s influence.
Today (January 20) would have been his 79th birthday and many fans have been marking it on social media.
“Today is the 79th birthday of DAVID LYNCH. The Maestro who forever changed the world of art and culture. And our lives. Thank you for everything. Long live The Greatest,” one wrote.
Another added: “In heaven, everything is fine. RIP David Lynch. Today would have been his 79th birthday.”
